Here is the information about the Allegan County Area Technical Education Center (ACATEC) Decision Day Event that I discussed during our last workforce development committee meeting. I wanted to circle back around with the committee to nail down details for attendance of the event in promotion of DCDP PACT program, HBA of Western Michigan, and overall career opportunities in building trades.
I have created a tentative schedule below for the morning:
8:00a to 8:30a – Set up*
Shift 1 - 8:30a to 9:45a – Screw gun races (these were a hit last year) every 15 minutes, hand out collateral, run video NAHB Career in Construction Video
9:45a to 10:15a – Break
Shift 2 - 10:15a to 11:30a - Screw gun races every 15 minutes, hand out collateral, run video NAHB Career in Construction Video
Committee members wouldn’t have to stay for the entire event. We can run hour and fifteen minute shifts before and after the break. I will be there from set up to tear down so we likely only need 3 more people to commit to each shift. I remember talk of the young professionals being interested in attendance, I’d love to have them join us.
Let me know how you would like to proceed with the above at your earliest convenience and thanks again for the opportunity to work with the HBA on this and future projects, all are much appreciated.
Best,
Christian Deuel
*Set Up Includes: Table, Collateral (handouts, etc.) Monitor and electronics for video (I have these items), Saw horses, 2x4 materials cut down to 4’ lengths, 4 – 8’ 2x4, screw guns, screws, PPE, extension cords, etc. – Most of this CAAC can provide. If members were interested in donating materials for the screw gun races I can issue an in-kind letter for tax benefit.
The Allegan County Area Technical and Education Center (ACATEC) is putting together the details for Decision Day 2019 and we hope that you are able to participate. We’ve moved some things around, shaken some things up, and made it bigger and better! Fortunately, you likely won’t notice any major changes except that your day will be shorter. Decision Day 2019 is April 9 and runs from 8:30 until 11:30.
The largest change for this year is that we will be transporting all 2019 HS seniors (ACATEC students and all others) from all seven of our school districts to ACATEC to participate. All of the seniors attending will have blocks of time set aside to specifically visit with all of you. That’s right – bring your displays, brochures, interactive equipment, swag, most charismatic representatives, etc. to promote your postsecondary opportunities and gather information from 700 diverse students who will be completing high school only two months later.
Our college, university, technical school, union, and U.S. Armed Service partners will be set up indoors at the Allegan Tech Center from 8:30 – 11:30. There will be a window from 9:45 – 10:15 when students will be in transit from one site to another, so you will get that break. We’ll provide tables and chairs and try to get you close to an electrical outlet if needed.
