The HBA is proud to announce a new opportunity for members to get involved in a multi-year effort to have a significant impact by building new quality, affordable homes in underserved neighborhoods throughout Kalamazoo city and county.
This new collaborative effort brings together the HBA of Western Michigan, LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) and KNHS (Kalamazoo Neighborhood Housing Services) to build 8-12 new homes per year. As an HBAWMI program, all member builders, supplies and providers have the opportunity to get involved.
There are plenty of details to be shared, but here’s the really short story: KNHS will purchase lots currently owned by the Kalamazoo County Land Bank. HBA members will build homes on these lots with plans provided by the HBA within pre-determined financial targets. LISC will provide the funding to purchase the lots, build the homes, and provide resources to cover the appraisal gap for KNHS clients (and others) to become homeowners.
